They grow wild in my garden. I have to regularly take out shoots or they would take over.
I have four in flower at the moment and they’re magnificent.

Fantastic! I tried and failed. Did you protect them over winter?

That is the absolute dream for me, next year will be my year!
Did you plant the seeds directly in the ground or raise seedlings indoors first or what?

We had one of these appear in our garden a few years ago

Funny thing is, we have loads of these in the garden and have to pull them up since they are killing everything else around them!

I’ve given up on Pinniana, I just stick to the small frost hardy ones now which are still gorgeous but no where near as stunning as these beasts! Congratulations!

nice
They’ve been self-seeding in our rental garden since we moved in five years ago – this is the first year one has survived the winter for us too!

Ah, so they’re related to Viper’s Bugloss, just found out. Here’s a page with some nice close-up images of the wild variety.
After reading about the spines, I am glad I did not touch the stems when I was photographing some…

They grow like weeds where my uncle lives in Falmouth, self-seeding everywhere and growing out of cracks in pavements.
Also, bear in mind they die after flowering, so you might want to collect some seeds (and also nurture any self-seeded ones).
