I just got a piece too. Comments I got suggest letting it callous over for a couple days and then put in cactus / succulent soil in a sunny spot (if doing indoors, outdoors just plant). Then don’t water it for a couple weeks until it has roots /growth.

      Yours looks maybe dried out?

Also out of season so it’s going to take longer , don’t give up

Looks like it already has some roots towards the bottom of the pad there, you can just lay it on some soil

Appreciate everyone responding. I’m gonna set it on top of some soil in a big pot in my house and see what happens. I will post results!

    5. lay it on some soil- it already has roots coming out and a new bud lol. you can bury it cut end down, halfway in the dirt. They are super easy. I wouldn’t bother with water propping. it’ll grow 1 layer of pads a year.

not sure what species you have but some are cold hardy and can live outside thru winter

Just lace it where you want it to grow. In a few weeks new growth will start coming in.

I just lay my cactus pads down onto gritty cactus mix, water with a squirt nozzle water bottle under the pads.

    8. If you can, plant it outside in the ground as this is a cold hardy prickly pear cactus and will do better outside with a lot of sun. It can be hard to provide them with enough light indoors which can cause them to weaken and etiolate.
