Hallo. Wir haben unseren Rasen langsam abgeschafft und die Ränder immer größer gemacht. Ich denke, jetzt sind wir an dem Punkt angelangt, an dem wir eine Entscheidung darüber treffen müssen, wie wir den Garten richtig anlegen. Es scheint einfach, aber ich habe so lange über die Form des Pfades, die Anzahl der Pfade usw. nachgedacht, dass ich schnell nicht weiterkomme. Ich hoffe, dass diese Gruppe mit ein paar guten Vorschlägen/Ratschlägen helfen kann.
Unten rechts ist ein kleiner Schuppen, unten links ist ein Hängemattenbereich, wenn die Sonne scheint, und in der Mitte steht ein alter Apfelbaum. Hinter dem Baum habe ich an Trittsteine und Farne, Glockenblumen usw. gedacht, da es dort unten nicht viel Sonne gibt …
Gehe ich einen wackeligen Weg? Ein Ringpfad um den Baum herum und dann geradeaus in der Mitte? Gar kein Weg? Ein Weg in Form einer Zahl 9 um den Baum herum?? 🤯😅

Edit 2: FANTASTISCH, vielen Dank an alle. Einige wirklich hilfreiche Vorschläge. Ich finde es toll, wie beliebt die Idee mit dem Teich ist. Ich hatte zunächst nicht daran gedacht, das zu tun, aber ich denke, da fange ich an und schaue dann, wie es läuft. Tolles Geschrei auf den Gräsern, einer Bank und dem Kleeblatt! Alles geht rein. Ich hoffe, dass es in ein paar Monaten ein Update mit einigen Fortschritten geben wird.

Bad back here. Following because we’re also looking to converting lawn into container garden to grow veg and fruit trees. It just feels so radical though and am sure many will hate the idea haha.
I’m not sure of getting rid of the whole lawn, but have you thought of getting a pond?
I never thought I would have wanted one but when I moved into this house a few years ago I ‘inherited’ one that was quite poorly designed and neglected.
That said – it has proven an absolute wildlife hotspot that has brought me so much pleasure. From learning about and picking new plants to put in it to seeing loads of different animals use it.
I have all kinds of birds using it as a bird bath and fishing out and eating snails (and newts!) I have dozens of newts in it laying eggs and last year I had dozens of damsel and dragon flies coming out of it, it was magic.
I think it looks amazing 🤩
Tbh i think it looks lovely as-is, but you could try some very low-growing ground cover so it’s low-maintenance, easy to walk on but more visually appealing than plain grass. You could also throw out some love in a (the?) mist seeds perhaps?
Would a path be okay around the tree?
Your garden looks pretty balanced as it is!
If it’s the maintenance or lack of flower/biodiversity that bothers you, then plant some clover. There are multiple varieties depending on footfall or max height you want and they will feed the soil, flower and handle drought fairly well.
Be guided by the sun and shade provided by the tree and plant into it with gay abandon.
I agree with nature pond – mine got 3 frogs in its first year and has just been a delight-damsel and dragonflies and all the new plants-I got a water lily as a birthday present and it was stunning.
Ferns, hostas, hydrangea, fuschia, roses, grasses, bulbs etc will all do great straight planted into the lawn.

Paths lead somewhere. Think about what you want in your garden (seating area, water feature, statues, bench, etc), place it appropriately and plan a path between them.
It’s crying out for a tunnelled walkway and arches with climbers imo leading to either a smaller secret hidden little seat or weaving through the garden.
There’s also always room for a pond and/ or wildlife area 🥰

You dont want to make the beds much deeper for weeding. I’d run a path either side where the grass is. This could be a deep layer of wood chip for a natural look. Alternatively use stone paving. Especially if your garden gets soggy.
Then towards the front near the patio make the pond deep so you don’t disturb the tree roots. Make it shallower as you near the tree. Then more planting towards the tree. I’d do some taller grasses to breakup any sightlines. I’m not sure on the path of the sun, but a bench where it gives you a nice sunny spot.
You basically want to create a short and a long view, so there’s always something to wonder about round the corner.

I’d nestle the bench in behind the tree but just poking out a little so it invites you down to that end of the garden.

I actually think the lawn being present gives the eyes somewhere to rest which then allows the viewer to appreciate the gorgeous gardens beyond more fully! You can give the borders more shape if you like but as an artist and photographer, I think the lawn is really working in your favor here and I wouldn’t remove it entirely ☺️

I got rid of our lawn a few years ago and it’s the best thing I ever did for the garden. It suits us down to the ground to have more planting space and no lawn upkeep so if that sounds like what you want, then I highly HIGHLY recommend doing it.
In terms of design, mine is pretty meander-y and I like it. It’s really down to your personal aesthetic preference but the one practical thing I’d say is to make sure you can easily reach across the full width of all planting space to make weeding & doing new planting easier.

I think the central bed beneath the tree can be stretched towards the house more, so rather than a circle it is a teardrop. The tail of the Teardrop can butt into your step so the path is U shaped.
I would be careful that you don’t block the sightlines you have at the moment as, without getting too philosophical, is it beautiful if you can’t see it? Something tall would need to be wavy like Actaea or Thalictrum, just be careful with shrubs, anything tall will be a frustration.
As others have said, incorporate a stepping stone into your deep borders so you can get in and maintain without crushing.
Try and keep the path wide enough for two people so around 5ft
If it was me I’d make the centre bed larger and not circular (maybe kidney shaped) so you are left with the green grass path around it. You could add some clover or achillea to the lawn for more wildlife interest. I think the green is calming.
I like a sort of structured wandering gravel path, raised beds and lots of grasses, like this one. Look at edmundjacksongardens on Instagram. This is their garden, it’s stunning ♥️

We’re slowly getting “rid” of the lawn too. Built a little pond and it’s magic already. I would definitely get a (maybe stone) bench somewhere with a great view/smell and slowly replace random parts of the lawn with tall grasses. There are loads to choose from. That will give the wild/jungle/rich garden feeling I think you’re looking for and will give you more ideas on how to proceed
What about a low flowering lawn mix? There’s a few sellers online with native grass/flower mixes that would be much more varied than just lawn. I’ve recently replaced my lawn with one and am looking forwards to the variety of colours I’ll be seeing in that area now.
If you Google “Low flowering lawn seed mix” there’s a few companies selling mixes, I bought mine from wildflowerlawnsandmeadows
Even if you end up adding a path a mix like this could go in between, or they have mixes of just the flowers

Remember lawns/grass do serve a purpose. Open space in a garden allows the eye to rest.
They allow access to the rest of your plants.
They allow proper drainage.
Maybe consider a clover lawn?
