It might help if you add a diagram of what you mean but I think I get it.
Honestly anything is going to stress the tree more and it doesn’t look wildly happy at the moment.
It is growing mostly on one side, it is not very full it is not happy.
it also needs a good prune, it looks like a prunus species but do you know what kind of tree it is?
I suspect a lot of roots were removed when this was first put in and the bit in the middle may follow a large root near the surface that couldn’t be removed. So trying to do what you discribe will kill the tree, possibly slowly over a few years.
