Hallo!

Seit Kurzem interessiere ich mich mehr für die Landschaft rund um das Haus. Nur um festzustellen, dass die früheren Hausbesitzer Landschaftsstoffe und SO VIEL Steine installiert hatten. So viel.

Das heutige Abenteuer bestand darin, in der Nähe der Irispflanzen zu arbeiten. Ich habe so viele Steine um sie herum und darunter sowie den Stoff entfernt.

Was würden Sie als meine nächsten Schritte empfehlen? Ich habe etwas Kompost zur Hand. Müssen sie auch geteilt werden und soll ich damit bis zum Ende des Sommers warten?

TIA!

-Ein absoluter Neuling 🌸😊

Oh, iris are pretty forgiving once you get them out from under all that fabric and rock — good for you for tackling that mess. The compost is a good call, but I’d go light on piling it right around the rhizomes… they like to be somewhat exposed and can rot if you bury them too deep. As for dividing, late summer after they’ve finished blooming is the standard advice, so you’re right on track there. You’re doing great for a total newbie, by the way.

They look full enough to divide. I would wait to see the flower show first. If it’s robust i wouldn’t divide them, but if sparse go ahead.

I divide mine every year now because they multiply so quickly. You can dig them up anytime from after they flower (mid spring) to late fall and split the rhizomes. Replant somewhere they will have more space to grow and will be easier for you to access in the future if you need to. Irises are very forgiving and recover quickly, so don’t be too worried if you have to get a little aggressive when digging them up from the spot they’re planted in now.

  4. Everybody has given great answers already, but I wanted to add:

I ran out of people to trade with, and eventually ended up throwing HUNDREDS of dug-up irises into the woods. Where they easily rooted themselves and came back!

Just don’t bury them too deep, and you really can’t mess them up. But like the others said, wait until they’ve bloomed before you mess with them any more.

When you do divide them, you’ll probably put 2-3 of them back in this location. It looks like you might have hundreds :-O I have purple ones and yellow ones if you wanna trade later.
