Also, the two from the left are from my grandma. But my plan is to take care of them all ✨
I like to add compost to my soil every year to enrich it plus I use mulch over top to keep the soil cool and the moisture in. But it looks like your soil is right at the top of your paths. Rains will wash everything right into any low spots. Perhaps putting in an edge around your beds will reduce all that cleaning up.
Also, keep in mind if nettles and weeds have been growing there over the years, there are seeds in the soil just waiting to pop up again, so routine weeding will be needed. It’s never once and done with those little buggers.😉
If your grandmother likes tulips and roses, try to get hardy, disease resistent roses, plus tulips that will naturalize in your region (meaning they return year after year and if lucky, reproduce bulblets). Many tulips start to decline after the first year, so need replacing. By planting groupings of tulips near your roses, you’ll have spring flowers and as your roses leaf out, that will help hide the dying tulip foliage (you need to allow the foliage to die back completely before removing so they can collect nutrients for next year). You might look for long-blooming annuals too, such as petunias, that add color and cover the soil, helping to tie everything together.
Sitting with your grandmother overlooking the garden sounds lovely. That will be a good memory that will stay with you forever.
