She has an eye for beauty that’s for sure. If she likes it then nothing to change but since you ask –
Mulch is really great for the soil and the plants for numerous reasons. I also believe it looks nicer than bare soil. If she’s against regular mulches then maybe groundcover plants.
I’d be pulling up tiles for more soil to plant into but, again, it looks nice and we all have different preferences.

Your mother has planted a wonderful garden! If I have any suggestions- perhaps weeding out the garden beds a little more and adding some fresh soil, compost and or mulch – which will give the plants a boost of nutrients and help suppress the weeds 🙂 Otherwise, great job!
Tell your moms she’s living my mom’s and I’s dream. She must have so much fun and relaxing out there. I’ll never have a garden like this but I’m glad she can!
