If it’s not on your property, Leave it alone.
To answer your question. Though as I mentioned in a comment. I’ve never successfully propagated a succulent, even though they’re supposed to be super easy.
But theoretically, you pluck off some of the leaves. You let them sit until the bare piece is dry and crusted over, then lay them in soil and they will begin to sprout little roots. This is a far as I’ve gotten but they never live on.
Taking from the wild is poaching. There is so many excellent and affordable places to order online if there aren’t any close to you.
Edit: in not trying to be rude, but i thought it was very frowned upon to take from wild sources since they’re getting kind of rare these days?
Wow I’ve never seen them growing out of a dead tree before! West coast people are so lucky! They get to have all of the wild succulents! Just cut them off at the stem and put them in soil. They’ll develop a root system soon after that!
You can either do leaf or cuttings to prop. Cutting are much faster and more like to succeed. But if you get lucky with leaves you can get a lot more plants with time so depends what you prefer. I would do both personally.
For a cutting you take off a whole rosette. You want a little bit of stem with it (that’s where the roots will grow). And you stick it in the soil and wait for roots. Super easy. If you need more stem pull off some bottom leafs and prop those.
As for leafs you can just pull off large ones that are fully hydrated and set them on some soil. Some people spray them, others don’t. So you gotta play around and see what works for you and your location. Keep them in a warm spot not directly in the sun. Then the leaf can produce roots(which you burry at some point) and a baby plant at the end. Then it takes awhile for it to become a mature plant. I’ve had some for months that are still going. There’s lots of little tips and tricks some people swear by if you want more info. But that’s the basics.
Take a succulent “leaf” put in in soil I have mine in a takeout container with small amount of soil I’ve seen some advice to leave them alone but I mist them daily and it seems to work for me
