This is just right. If you have real river rocks available or can get some from a nearby creek, they provide nutrients that store-bought “rocks” don’t. Good luck!
This is great. Don’t listen to anyone about the clear glass – I’ve had my lucky bamboo in a vase/rocks/water for 15 years and it’s doing great.

The only issue I’ve had is making sure to flush it out, especially right after doing it. Store rocks will have sediment and stuff that comes up and float right after. Also, dollar tree and other dollar stores and thrift stores are great for finding cool glassware and have cheap rocks.
Looks good. Just make sure they have some light. I have had bamboo among other plants in just water or rocks and water for YEARS. I have also been told many times you cannot keep them that way for very long, but still the plants grow and stay green and healthy. I have also had success putting a beta in a large vase with bamboo. And lucky bamboo among others hanging out of my aquarium. Those situations have also lasted years. Good Luck
I’ve had mine like this for almost 15 years. The one thing I learned is they hate the fluoride and other additives in tap water and do best with distilled water
My kids have about 10 bamboo shoots. They are even doing sugarcane the same way now.
The bamboo seems to tolerate anything! We found one that had fallen out of one of the boys’ containers and was bone dry. Once back in water it put off new leaves.
They have them in fishtanks, jars with rocks, in water only, some in shady areas, some in bright windows.
Main thing seems to be keeping the water changed.
You’re doing great with the plant, be sure to change water weekly. Lucky bamboo is not related to the true bamboo’s. It is actually part of the Asparagaceae family as Dracaena sanderiana, a common house plant
I have a similar set up and mine seems happy enough. Every few years, I have to add more rocks, and more water, in a bigger container to keep it upright. Right now the roots are in a 8 inch diameter glass vase with about 6 inches of rocks (depth); plant is 7 feet tall (but sparse). It seems pretty happy and I’ve had it for a while.
If you get some sand… out it at the bottom more filling for the jar lol but it’s a perfict ratio honeslty
Actually, river rocks are great, but you’d want to make sure they’re cleaned of any algae or bacteria that you don’t want to import to your beautiful plant. You can do this by scrubbing then boiling the rocks for a few minutes. You have enough rocks and water, but you can always add more. Your bamboo will be fine with it. Just keep it topped off with water.

This is how I have all of my bamboo too and my mom has hers like this as well. We’ve had them for 10-15 years so far and they’re doing great. My mom’s looks absolutely amazing.
I put them in my fish tank and they thrive in 2ft of water, so you could fill it up more if you want
I use rocks up to the middle of the vase for mine and fill the water up to the rocks, all my bamboo is thriving and healthy

As long as no leaves are submerged the bamboo is fine.
The one I have is actually without rocks, as they honestly require very little (not a lot of nutrients and only indirect sunlight).
That said, I’ve seen them work with even more rocks than yours has, so it’s all good.

Yeah I’d say too much water. From what I’ve seen bamboo don’t require much, make sure so it doesn’t rot
I have these growing in a similar way. I would add more water. I left my roots exposed. Just sit them on top of the rocks. I use a liquid fertiliser every top up. 😁
