Every year winter sneaks up on me too. Been living in the same part of the world for almost four decades. Sigh.

If your trees are hardy to your area they should be fine, snow insulates the roots and provides moisture which plants need to make their antifreeze.

U don’t need to cover young perennial tress. Even their seeds are designed to survive frost.

    3. Winter’s pretty at first (see: this photo), but it drags for me. After pretty wears off then comes the discomfort, the cold wet, the penetrating cold, the long, dark days. And I just want to be warm and sleep. Which feels a lot like a chronic mental illness to me. Sigh. Hope everyone is as happy as possible this winter.

Wow, imagine having a snowy garden! I would put snowmans and Christmas trees.

It snuck up on us a whole month early this year where I live. I have decided that the plants and weather can have a battle royale, and I’ll fix whatever is broken in the spring.

Fun fact about snow. It actually is the covering for young trees. Despite it being counterintuitive, snow can have insulating properties. For example, in the Sierra Nevada Mountains snow covers young sequoia trees protecting them from the wind and cold.
