I’m sorry I can’t ID if this is a disease or not, but in my experience with plants, I would cut down to the nearest node and toss anything showing discoloration. I tend to lean toward it’ll grow back rather than wait and see and risk the whole plant so take my advice as you wish. I hope it pulls through!

Maybe fungal?
