it is an “elephant bush” or “dwarf jade” or portulacaria afra. they’re not actually trees, they’re succulents, but you can use some bonsai techniques on them. they’re popular, especially with beginners, because they’re pretty robust, can come indoors in the winter, and don’t up and die if you miss 1 watering
