It is normal for plants to have roots. Unless you meant the leaves and then yes its normal for plants to have leaves also.

    2. Native grass often has very long roots. Not sure if that is what you pulled up. I would check your state website to see what grasses are native.

Native grasses are very beneficial. But non-native grasses can be very invasive depending on the grass.

Edit: This video shows the benefits of native grasses.

That looks like a lawn grass (some type of fescue?) The white thing that looks like a root is a rhizome or an underground runner; that’s how a lot of native perennials spread. Above-ground grass runners are called stolons.

Yes, plant roots can be several feet long. Or longer. Or shorter. All plants are different.

Looks like quack grass ([link](https://www.gov.mb.ca/agriculture/crops/weeds/quackgrass.html)), after pulling it out for a summer as a job I’m convinced there’s just one plant with a very long, interconnected root system that spreads across North America from coast to coast.

You need to get out every single root to get rid of it. Methods of removal that break up roots make the problem worse. Best of luck.

    6. It looks like Bermuda grass is dying other kind of rhizomatous turf grass. Soooooo satisfying to pull them that long

Most weeds have connected root systems allowing them to spread you pull one sprout and don’t break the root it will lead to another sprout
