won’t be long before its up there again. 2 years maximum with shaping.

It’s a shrub, it will grow back.

It’s not that you didn’t do it yourself, it’s a reminder to give clear instructions if something is important.

      Plus, looks good 👍

Good pruning increases plant vigour and berry-bearing .

I think whoever did that has done a good job. They’ve thinned it out and shaped it, all while keeping the berries. They must have some decent gloves! Next year it will probably go like the clappers though. Presumably you didn’t specifically say “keep the height”?

Looks better for the trim. Mine grows at a rate of knots. It won’t take long to bush put again if that’s what you want.

Pyracantha is a beast. The berries are nice but otherwise I personally wouldn’t have it near me. It will grow back maybe better.

    7. It looks good to be honest but I can see why your Mrs would be upset at the loss of height. But it comes back fairly quickly.

Did I spot correctly that you’re growing tjis beast in a tiny pot? Wow!

Looks better. And it will grow back if you dont like it. Relax.

I think it looks way better and in proportion! The roots can be damaging to foundations though, at least it’ll be easier to repot at its current size

Much improved – you’ll both appreciate the shape and height soon enough. Sometimes you’re too close to something and a 3rd party will just do what needs doing.

I see why your wife is a bit shell shocked, it’s quite a lot off. But they’ve done a really nice job and to a height which made sense looking at it originally, it looked like it narrowed at that height.
This will let you keep it really nice as it grows.

It’s horrible, savage stuff to deal with. It looks better and manageable now. And if you do prefer the exploding soufflé look, you won’t have to wait long with pyracantha.

Why not take the opportunity to train it better than ever?

While it’s cut lower, you could put some horizontal lines of wire above it every 18 inches or so, on rods protruding a few inches from the wall.

If you prune so it doesn’t protrude as far from the wall, it will put its energy into vertical growth and get back to its original height in 2-3 seasons. Once it’s reached the desired height, start pruning the top and it’ll bush out (if you choose to let it)
