It says it on the label – they are from the Hairy Plant Pot Co.
From their site:
Do I need to take the hairy pot off my new plant?
Yes, it is best to take the plant out of the pot or to cut/tear away some of the coir if your new plant is really well rooted and it’s hard to get the whole pot off.
Why?
Removing the coir fibre pot helps the plants roots to connect with the garden soil or planter compost so they can get water and nutrition.
When should I do this?
It’s especially important in late Spring and Summer when we are more likely to get long periods without rain.
What happens if I want to leave the pot on?
It’s not the end of the world if you do leave the pot on, but you will need to water regularly and make sure the soil or compost covers the rim of the pot. If the coir dries out it can act as a barrier between the plant roots and the soil/compost.

Roots need to touch the soil and not a coconut. Yes take them out.
It’s coir. Take them out, reuse it, compost it, or use it as a mulch.
absolutely. they will last a little while. remobe the soil, bang them out and dry them for the spring
I’ve had these coir pots before and found them rubbish. They are tough to cut and you can’t easily pull the plant out like you can with a smooth walled pot. When ready to pot on you’re probably best off cutting them open with a Stanley knife then ripping them into pieces and adding to the compost, or using as mulch.
Pro tip is to cut it all off, plant the plant then lay the coir around the plant on the soil. Helps to retain moisture and stops the soil getting hot which can easily kill new plants
I bought some Sorrel in one of those pots and then cut it up and used it as mulch.
You need some decent scissors to cut through it though.
For gods sake , it lets the roots though pot . So just plant it. And it rots.
