He might be thirsty, that’s a common reason for nibbling produce. I’ve heard providing a water source can relocate animal activity like this from your harvest to the water.

Didn’t even know they ate tomatoes. I grow them every year and have plenty of squirrels. Guess I’m lucky (and I feed the squirrels peanuts and sunflower seeds).

They are cute, but if push comes to shove they also make excellent dumplings.

This is why I feed my squirrels raw fruit and veggie scraps, dry corn cobs, peanuts in the shell. Plants make up the majority of their diets.
As others have said they want water. Put out a dish.
Also that tomato should be picked as soon as it started to blush to ripen inside. That also helps deter them.

Try putting nylon footies around any produce you want to protect. It’s breathable and lets in light as it expands, and it’s an effective deterrent for animals.

I haven’t had any problems with squirrels, but I do have problems with voles, they are small enough to get through the small holes in the wire fence around the garden that would even keep a rabbit out. My only solution I can think of is to get someone to loan me their cat that I could keep in the garden overnight.

Squirrels can be a menace. Get a feeder for them and water you’ll be fine for a bit

So stinking cute! My husband was pissed that one day we had 30 almost ripe peaches on one peach tree and 2 days later they were all gone. 30 peach pits lay at the base of the tree. I’m pretty sure the squirrels got them. And honestly, I planted the fruit trees and berry bushes for the wildlife with the hopes that maybe we would get a few.

A branch broke off my main plant a few weeks ago so I tried saving it because it had a couple that had grown. After all my efforts it finally start revitalizing and one was almost fully ripe. Came home to find a squirell took it. After a couple days it took the still green one, chewed at it and left it to rot.
Now im nervous the main healthy plant that has a big one starting to turn will suffer the same fate. Next year no tomatoes for me. Two years of trying just for them to ruin it isn’t worth the effort. Thankfully they leave my cucumbers alone. They learned the hard way on my habenero last year.
