This is the patch of hollyhocks and poppies that self set in the gravel next to my bins. Hollyhocks refuse to grow in the actual flowerbeds

Similarly, I had a tomato plant seed itself in my garden this year. It’s 6ft tall and 3ft wide. These are the first batch – I’ve barely touched the thing and it’s grown better than any I’ve ever planted!
I found a big forgotten pot behind the shed. It has two oak trees in it planted by a forgetful squirrel.
Likewise tomatoes outside never ripen normally up here this year they are.
Also Zinnias grows from seed are amazing I will definitely be growing them again. It’s been a good year for a lot of things really.
We realised today that the dull 30ft feral plum tree in the hedge* was in fact a greengage. I’m sure it hasn’t fruited the last 7 years, but we picked a boxful this morning.
*loosely applied term.

I am still awaiting this ENORMOUS hollyhock to flower. It’s at least 5ft tall, and in a raised bed so is towering over the rest of my small yard. It’s my first year gardening and this is definitely the most impressive thing I’ve (somehow) grown.
Just taking on a new garden at the moment, and the weird apple tree we have (along with the multiple normal apple and pear trees!) turns out to be a quince!!!
Have a similar rogue tomato growing happily out the side of my raised beds; the less said about the ones in the greenhouse the better.
I have pumpkins that grew from seeds from one i chucked in the compost last Halloween
The blueberry sapling I planted really took to the soil well, and it is now almost 7 feet tall. I apparently need another plant of the species before they can fruit, so that’s next on my list.

This foxglove self seeded in my garden, grew 6ft tall, went to seed and then sprouted a new baby from the top 🤣
We used a bit of earth pinched from below our lawn to put some apple root stock trimmings into and a load of violas and pansies grew in the pot.
