Interesting! I never knew that either!
Those guys will just eat anything lol
Yes, wasps are beneficial predators! I’m always happy when I see wasps around my garden (as long as they’re not flying too close to my face, haha)
They get a lot of hate but they’re great predators in the garden.
I could watch that all day
Let him cook, then cook him later.
They eat practically anything! They are also pollinators.
They saved my kale this year.
Hmmm. Maybe they’re not so bad after all.
Yep! I welcome my wasp friends.
Wasps eat all sorts of pest insects. As long as they don’t live near me they can visit my garden all they want.
Every year, I find at least one yellow jacket nest in the garden. I can get within a couple feet of a nest to weed and water. They don’t care at all. I leave them alone, they leave me alone. They are great for the garden, so it’s all good!
I have a love hate relationship with these guys. Every year they abduct my caterpillars, build on my house, and go to war with my dog every year (she’s a rescue I found in the mountains and she eats them. It’s a whole thing) BUT they also pollinate my dragonfruit every year. So it’s a lose lose lose win situation. They’re evil.
You sure he’s not just licking up the secretions?
Assholes gotta eat too
Don’t care, fuck yellow jackets in particular. Bees? Allowed. Paper Wasps? Okay, I guess. Bald Faced Hornets? As long as we stay away from each other.
Yellowjackets can get fucked all the way the hell.
Wasps are amazing
The hornets have been constantly flying around my brassicas this year, and the cabbage moth caterpillars seem to be missing other than some minor damage. Hornets and wasps are beneficial predators:) we just get caught in the crossfire sometimes
Wasps even actually help more in pollinating than most think.
I’ve seen paper wasps predate on tobacco hornworms when they’re still small. I only kill wasps who come after me, instead of their prey.
So much hate for these guys. They’re very chill in foraging grounds. Go anywhere near their nest however and they’ll destroy you. A colony got very friendly with me a few years ago. Enough that they started grooming and napping on me. They just liked that I accidentally gave them left over hummingbird sugar water and disturbed their prey out of hiding. Yep that’s why they’re like leave yellow jackets alone! They’re so beneficial!
Yeah well they’re also beefing with me for just existing outside my house.
They love my zinnias and have been soldiers in my garden this season. Lowkey developing a soft spot for them!
They also will come and clean off your brassicas if you have any cabbage worms.
Great thing about wasps is they are thorough. I have seen them going through lettuce leafs like cards on rolodex looking for small bugs.
Fuckers would eat a horse if they could carry it away.
