Zog im November in ein neues Haus und erbte einen Apfelbaum. Ich bin mir nicht sicher, welche Art es ist oder ob sie essbar sind. Kann mir jemand ein paar Ideen geben?
Yes! All apples are edible, but the small crabapples and the much larger so-called cooking apples can cause digestive upset (or be very hard and woody) if eaten raw. Most if not all apples (not sure about the very small-fruiting ornamental Malus species) carry a strong apple fragrance and are useful in baking, cooking, preserves and chutneys, or even potpourri!
These look like a delicious eating apple. Only one way to find out.

No way to know if it’s for cooking or eating without taking a bite.

I don’t think you can get inedible apples… They might be cookers which will be a bit tarter, but lovely in a crumble. Best way to find out is to pick one and give it a taste. They’ll not be ripe until September though.

Wait until they’re ripe and eat one, if it’s bitter and kind of awful it’s a cooking apple, if it’s just kind of awful it’s probably french, if it’s nice enjoy it.

Wait until they are ripe to find out if they are cookers or eaters. They should be ripe when, if you lift them up gently vertically, they come away easily. Apples that are in the sun will ripen first. My guess is those are eaters.

Look like eating apples of some kind possibly Braeburn, but always difficult to tell without actually sampling, try one if they are crisp they probably are Braeburn, pink ladies have a soft texture and a smoother skin golden delicious are usually green in colour when ripe as are Granny Smith, if they were cooking apples they would be bigger and more doughnut shaped and bitter to taste uncooked

They look exactly the ones in my parents garden that we’ve been happily eating for 35+ years.

Not many varieties ready for eating yet. Earliest is late August. Many apple varieties reach their peak ripeness in September and early October. They won’t taste good until then.

Apples 101……..
Two types of apple are inedible or indigestible:
Unripe apples and cooking apples.
Please note, quite a few apples can be either cooked or eaten raw. Crossover apples.
Also note, unripe apples are rich in pectin. Thus particularly useful added to fruit jam and other preserves.
Apples are ripe when they can be twisted and come off the tree without tearing the twig.
When they fall or blow off the tree, they are windfall. These bruise and don’t keep.
