Looks like a leylandii, and no, it won’t come back after being trimmed.

Just cut it down and replace it with something nicer and more controllable. Those things get massive, block out all the light a kill everything. It’s like the King of weeds!!

As others said leylandii. Horrible plant that never looks good and is useless for nature. Won’t grow back from a haircut. Time to go choppity chop then shoppity shop

You can top them, take half the height, and you can, trim the outside 4 inches but not much more if you cut into the woody growth they will look awful and if you cut back to the trunk, it will stay that way and not re-grow. Conifers of this size do not give you much choice, you could take them down, but your garden would seem bare for a while, until you plant something else.

Thanks all for the advice! Can’t work out how to edit my original post but it sounds like they need to come down.

Any recommendations of what to replace them with would be really appreciated. Planning to put a shed in front so something tall and thin would be ideal
