My vote is that it’s more humid? That or it was really over-watered and it’s finally drying out and breathing.
I have had some soil substrates take a month to dry out. That’s why I use both orchid bark and perlite in my potting mix.

This is a beautiful satin pothos! One of my fav plants. Very slow growing and doesn’t like a lot of light- indirect is best and thrives in darker areas. So if you have windows in the garage or side door, and they like heat so it sounds you have going the secret code to happiness for this guy
It’s probably the humidity. I had one that didn’t grow for years and then moved to a more humid climate and now it’s thriving.
Humidity is a game changer. My silver pothos is THRIVING since I moved it outside, to a bright shaded area. A/C pulls moisture from the indoor air, and these guys love moist air.
Plants are weird. One of my palm trees never grows. I’m away for vacation for a few days and that thing grows three new leaves.

They do like to be dry, and mine does best in my office under fluorescent lights kind of under a cabinet. It never grows well for me in a window or when I’m watering regularly. I only work 2 days a week in the office so I water once every week or once every other week if I’m off.
I’m no pro, but my plants thrive in the humidity. I like to put them out in the mornings when its extra humid where I live.
Needs high heat and humidity. House was dry and cold.
I have this plant in my office, and I have shit for lighting (it’s a garden level office space with a ton of bushes blocking the windows). So maybe it prefers minimal lighting? I also only water it once every couple weeks or so.
I have the same plant acting up also. Maybe I should send it to the garage so it can thrive! Lol
is this a satin pothos? I know that they’re vine climbing, but they are rooted in the ground so maybe your garage is providing a similar atmosphere to where they typically grow in nature. We have to remember that some tropical plants are in the jungle Earth and don’t often get sunlight because of taller, more lush foliage that blocks the sun from hitting the ground. Those kinds of plants thrive in dark, damp spaces. It may vine because it’s searching for the sun, but it doesn’t look like yours is ready to vine just yet. It has to grow a little bit more.
I have some plants that thrive on neglect as well, and other others that are so ridiculously needy

Scindapsus really suffer from soil degradation from under watering just as much as over watering. The conditions in your garage just happened to be right for soil recovery after a heavy watering before placing it there is my guess.
I have a garage plant… it likes it in there, that is its home now. Silly kaffir lime tree.
However if you want to bring it inside and try again, these plants do have a good way of telling you when to water and you can ignore / neglect it otherwise. If the leaves gently bend up like a taco and feel thin, it wants water. If the leaves are succulent and firm, leave it alone.
If the plant has trouble and you are only watering like this, the soil is just too crappy and repot with fresh soil to continue.
Maybe it thrives on verbal abuse when you called it ugly!
I did something similar and put a dead plant next to my trash bins. After a few days I noticed new growth. I decided to keep it but I left it outside by the front door. That little mf has gone wild outside. It is hot and humid here, so I guess that’s the key. I’m worried it’ll die when winter comes around again because I’ll have to bring it inside, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

From what I remember about scindapsus is that they don’t like bright light, it can burn their leaves and they love humidity. Theyre also drama queens….Mine is very particular about where it sits… I’ve moved mine just a few inches before and the leaves curl up because omg I’ve disturbed it’s peace and crossed it’s boundaries!

I have a worm bin that all of my bad plants go in when I’m done with them to be turned into castings for my good plants, except they never get made into worm shit because that box is the box of plant miracles. The soil is mostly worm shit and composting materials and is constantly aerated, the humidity is swampy, and the temps inside are always warm. The only thing is there is absolutely zero light, but the plants I put in there do not care because the other conditions are so spectacular.
I tossed avocado seeds in it last week and already have 12-18″ tall seedlings as of yesterday. Debating on whether to take them out or see how long they will survive in zero light.
