You can keep them in a pot, just not that one. they are very hardy and tolerant of drought. Get one at least twice the volume, preferably 3x the size, and make it terracotta if you can afford it (terracotta pots keep the roots much cooler and hold moisture much better, but they are spenny when you add it up)
