Der Plan war, dies zu einem Kieselgrenze zu Schiefer zu machen und Pflanzen zu haben – wir haben Kanten, Steine, Membran und Stifte dafür. Aber ich bin verloren, wie ich den aktuellen Staat vorbereiten kann, damit dies untergeht.
Ich nehme an, wir müssen das Gras voll und ganz aufbauen, bevor wir die Membran legen, aber wie tief muss das sein und müssen wir dann mehr Boden legen, um sie für die Membran auszusetzen?
Auch viel online zu sehen, wie Membran nicht ausreicht, um Gras sowieso besorgt zu stoppen, werden wir in der gleichen Position mit Gras eintreten – gibt es noch etwas, das wir anstelle von Standardmembran verwenden sollten?
Jeder Rat wäre so geschätzt, als ob Sie kein Geld für Dinge verschwenden möchten, die sowieso nicht funktionieren! Tia

Membrane won’t work and just puts non-organic material into the ground, which to me seems antithetical to gardening entirely. The only truly reliable way of suppressing plants is to put something else there that out-competes it. Ultimately, trying to fight nature is a fools errand and my advice is to lean into the chaos
Hiya — sounds like you’ve got a right project on your hands, but you’re thinking along the right lines already! Here’s how I’d tackle it:
1. Yep, you’ll want to lift all the grass first. Get as much of the root out as possible — especially any thick clumps or runners. You don’t need to dig super deep — about a spade’s depth (6–8 inches) is plenty. A fork’s often better than a spade for loosening it up.
2. Once the grass is up, give the soil a good rake over to level it out. No need to add extra soil unless it’s very uneven — just smooth things off.
3. Membrane does work, but quality matters. The cheaper fleece-type stuff often lets grass back through. Go for a woven weed membrane and peg it down well, especially around the edges.
4. Make sure you overlap the membrane sheets by 10–15cm so nothing sneaks through the gaps.
5. Optional tip: lay some cardboard underneath the membrane if you’re really worried about regrowth — it’ll rot down but gives you an extra barrier in the meantime.
6. Then just lay your slate and stones over the top — it’ll look great and keep the light off any weeds trying to come back.
7. Potted plants are a lovely idea — you can swap them out seasonally and they’re easy to manage.
