Not dead, but under siege by aphid. Despite that, it looks like a typical dianthus to me. I’ve never had one that doesn’t look naff at the crown.
If there’s a fix I’d like to know too, otherwise I just accept it.

Sorry to hijack but I have a question about dianthus… I have some seedlings growing at the moment, just want to know how many I should keep to a pot – for example, how many plants are there in the pictures here?
Sorry, usually a veg grower and have just started to dabble with flowers! 😅
Mine was the same after aphid infestation, cut it all back to base to get rid of aphids and it’s slowing sending up new shoots.
