Looks like bindweed not knotweed
Bindweed, it’ll get everywhere, just pull it up as much as you can.
bindweed. dig out as much as you can every year
Bind weed. Just removed loads of it
You want to try and follow the white cable like roots back as far as you can.
Could be like whack a mole for a while.
It’s bindweed. Annoying and persistent but much more harmless
I hate chemicals in the garden but this stuff is horrific and when you pull it up it will have tiny rhizomes that new plants can grow from. I’ve been battling this stuff for years and this year have started the method I never wanted to use which is to bag the plant (in situ) and spray with glysophate. This minimises the chance of the chemicals leaching into the rest of your soil and affecting insect/wildlife.
Good luck.
BINDWEED MY NEMESIS
Thanks all, I have started pulling it out and getting quite a lot of it from the white roots. Looks like it is going to be a busy summer 😆
I’m so sorry. It’s bindweed and it’s almost impossible to kill. You can only really minimise it as it seems to grow back fast from even the tiniest piece.
Don’t pull it up as it encourages the roots to grow stronger, cut the stem as close to the ground as possible, give the vines a bit of time to wilt and then they are easier to spot and detangle from other plants. Bane of my garden! Leaving two leaves above the soil and painting weed killer chemicals on them can also work to weaken the plant, if you have the patience.
I am leaving it where it is! I moved in last year and tbh I don’t mind it because I have moved from a home that was covered and I mean covered in horsetail, thousands of pounds spent and 20+ years fighting it, to no avail, so this is the least of my worries, it’s growing at the base of a hawthorn hedge that runs the whole length of the top of my close and along my garden. I will pull it out when I see it in my new borders but it’s like fighting a losing battle.
I pulled it out of my hedge last year but the hedge along the close had it left in and it looked beautiful when it was flowering, the bees loved it and it’s done no harm at all to the hedge, so I’m leaving it.
Bind weed, my dad’s on a near 20 year battle with the stuff.
