I’ve just discovered it in my garden, followed up by research, it’s not going to be a fun job getting rid

I would remove the plants you want to keep(thoroughly cleaning the rootballs of bindweed roots) pot up or plant elsewhere. Then treat the bindweed with glyphosate. (May require more than one treatment)

The best way is to train it up a wigwam structure, then just as it’s about to flower, spray it with a glyphosate based herbicide. It’s the most effective way, unfortunately. Done this many times, running large historic estates and gardens in the UK.

That’s bindweed, a nasty weed you don’t want.
Same as any weed, get a trowel or a proper tool and pull it out from the root, making sure none is left. It will probably come back a few times so you just have to keep an eye on the area.
Alternatively use weed killer but I personally find bindweed manageable without in comparison to others like ground elder.

You should dig up the roots as people are advising. But once you’ve done that planting vigorous foliage heavy plants to block light from the soil will help suppress it , as will pulling up new shoots regularly.

You don’t. Bindweed eradicates/controls you.
If bindweed and Chuck Norris were in a face off, my money wouldn’t be on Chuck.

I like the shape of its leaves. Plus, bindweed provides nectar & pollen for the myriad of pollinators. I don’t have it growing in my garden. However, if I did, I’d probably let a few plants stay as I’m primarily growing for pollinators.

You need to rip it all out and then plant dense foliage that will block the light from reaching it and any time you see it rip it out down to the root. You’ll never get rid of it entirely but you can suppress it to such a degree that it’s mostly gone.

Pull it up gently and try to get as much root as you can and then when you see it pop back up stick bamboo sticks in and let it trail up that and then keep snipping it at the bottom after a few weeks. Keep repeating. Not a quick way of getting rid of it by all means but it’s the effective way without using weedkillers
