My favorite wild scent! I’ve tried many times to transplant one from the woods, but they are very fussy. Where I am now, they are rare. The yellow is beautiful but I prefer pink!

My dad transplanted a couple of local wild azaleas in front of the house foundation, I guess this was in the late 1950s. This was in New England. They had sticky white trumpet shaped flowers, no hint of pink like those pictured here. They were doing well for a few decades then they died in the late 70s. The woods around us had blueberries both high and low bush which we gathered in summer. And there were pink lady slipper orchids which we were told in school not to gather as they had protected status but I knew of a large colony of them.
The house is not in the family anymore and I don’t live near there now but these memories and locations turn up in my dreams over 60 years later.

Very pretty, I miss seeing my rhododendrons and the flame azaleas in the mountains since we moved to the flat land in another State. It’s funny what you take for granted.

Piedmont azalea, love all the native azaleas. I have lots of these pink ones around my the creek. The orange, yellows and whites I planted. Love them all!!

    6. Had no idea they grew as tall as they do. I have to get on a stepladder to sniff their scent. It’s worth it.
