I discovered the proplifting concept and this community a few days ago, and it has sparked an intense new hobby for me. Since then, I’ve been collecting cuttings from all around me: at my in-laws’, at work, at my climbing gym, and even from clients, always with permission, of course.
I currently have two containers. Here are some photos of my very first experiments. You’ll see here:
* A variety of small cuttings in a large, shallow bowl.
* Two larger cuttings sitting in a tall water jar.
* A doggo, for tradition. Say hi to Zuko!
In the shallow bowl I think I have:
* Three spider plants that are rooting HARD.
* A pretty red plant that is starting to look a bit sad.
* A leaf from something that looks like a dracaena but has the texture of a low-res video game graphic.
* A single leaf bud from a Ficus Tineke I got from my climbing gym.
* A piece of string of hearts.
In the jar:
* This unknown pale dry fern-like leaf that’s been in there for a week, with a strange-looking white root. I don’t see any difference yet.
* A ZZ plant cutting that’s been in there since yesterday.
The things I’m unsure about:
* Will the Tineke bud propagate?
* Should I propagate the ZZ plant from leaves instead? I’ve read this plant can take a long time.
* Am I killing the red-colored plant? One of its leaves is wilting, and it feels much softer than when I first cut it.
I’m absolutely loving this new activity and I’m eager to try to grow more plants. Could you take a look at my setup and let me know if I’m doing it correctly? Any tips or advice for a beginner would be greatly appreciated!
Also, if you have any ideas about the names of some of these plants, I’d love to know!
I’ve already learned a bit from my mistakes: I no longer change the water every day like I did at first, to let the plant hormones work. I hope that putting multiple plants in the same container will help mutualize the hormones a bit more.
Looking forward to your feedback! Happy propagating! 🌱

Questions you asked: No idea sorry.
Questions you didn’t ask: The ferny guy looks like a blue star fern. If you have/can get any pothos cuttings, they put out rooting hormones like they were giving out candy.
