Thank you for sharing this article! It does make me think twice about where I’m purchasing.
I stopped buying any plants I knew were from Costa Farms a couple of years ago when the rumors about their labor practices started to surface online. These types of bills are so absurd and inhumane that I don’t know what to say. I was an ER nurse for 10 years and I took care of people in Michigan and Oregon who worked outside and developed heat stroke. I can’t imagine what it’s like down south in the warmer months, but the rich and connected have decided that we are expendable and now they’re not afraid to say it and use their money to make it law. Disgusting.
>I haven’t texted you in weeks–HEAT cannot die,” wrote Carol Bowen, a lobbyist for the Associated Builders and Contractors in a text message on 7 March to the House speaker Paul Renner’s chief of staff Allison Carter, the day before the last day of the legislative session when the bill was ultimately passed. “The entire business community is in lock step on this. Thank you for your attention to this concern”
You don’t hate lobbyists enough.
