The “indestructible” snake plant always proves to be very destructible to me.

    2. callie_perry82 on

i’ve killed a few pothos, but my biggest fail was a baby snake plant. they’re supposed to thrive on neglect, right? guess i just overwatered.

    3. Groningen1978 on

I killed many spider plants before I understood what overwatering really meant. Meanwhile all sorts of orchids and bromeliads are doing great in my care.

    4. snake plant – overwatered it (slightly too much and weekly was slightly too often) resulting in root rot. I did succeed in propagating cuttings though (in dirt, not water)

xmas cactus – died from transplant shock 🙁 I did not succeed in propagating cuttings either.

small monstera – I don’t even know what I did. too much light I think. I have more of them that are doing well away from windows.

I almost killed a money tree from transplant shock as well. All its leaves fell off but I kept its sun and watering habits the same and it has bounced back growing new sprouts from the top.

    5. Rubber tree didn’t die, it just didn’t have an leaves left. 😆

    6. “Easy” plant depends on the person, really. Same applies to “difficult”.

Have I ever killed plants? Yes, but all of them were plants that people usually have issues with (tradescantia, anthurium and the like). Do I count plants that died before I was diagnosed with ADHD? I don’t, because lack of executive function is kind of a bummer and not my fault.

i’ve killed three mint plants (pepper, spear, and creeping mini)
over AND underwatering. i’ve given up

My ZZ plant died and then resurrected. I’m baffled and happy.

They really need to make separate lists for “hard to kill” and “easy to save”. Separate ideas!

All succulents. I’ve never lived in a home that gets enough light for them. Many succs have died by my hands (sorry guys).

Cannot keep any cactus alive. Only the “difficult” topical plants.

I can keep everything but succulents alive…they don’t like my attention lol

I just killed a pothos that had been alive for years. Somehow I forgot I moved it to a new windowsill and it went months without water.

      RIP

Pilea. I have no idea how people manage to grow those massive, healthy looking plants.

I can’t stop killing my Thai cons. No matter what I do I give them root rot. My last one i saved from a single leaf top cut is rooted well in leca with a water reservoir now but not growing at all despite having a nutrient solution and two grow lights 😭 I think im just gonna go buy another one

All my zz plants and lithops. I just want to water them occasionally 😭

I’ve killed so many succulents. Both by overwatering and under watering. I have a succulent and an aloe that are both alive right now. Hopefully they will stay that way.

Jade. Many varieties of Jasmine. Syngonium. Monstera. Almanda. Xanadu. Hibiscus. Sigh!

So many basil plants. Several peace lilies.

fml. This post’s comments are making me feel better lmao

I killed a 100 year old jade and I still feel bad about it

    21. Practical_Ambition83 on

Fucking spider plant. I hated it anyway tho so I didn’t try that hard to keep it alive. Still, I thought it was unkillable

    22. Any plant can be killed with improper care. It’s all about finding the type of plants that fit your care style.

If you tend to over water, find thirsty plants. If you tend to neglect watering, find drought tolerant plants.

I’ve fortunately never killed my pothos. Around 8 years ago I had a pet bird that literally bit my pothos down to the bare soil and left the leaves all over the ground as war spoils. That plant is still thriving to this day. Once The Bitting happened, I just added water to the soil and forgot about it on the top shelf of a bookshelf in a sun-less hallway for months until some green started to stick up over the rim of the pot…So I kept watering it and moved it closer to a window and it grew back.

But I drowned the absolute crap out of my first ever succulent, which I assume is a common occurrence.

My pothos is caught in a dead/rebirth cycle because I keep forgetting to add more water to the jar. All the leaves die, and then I add water, so it grows a few back. I forget again, rinse/repeat.

I have this issue, but oddly the “easy to kill” drama queens do well for me.

Prayer plants, Alocacia (totally misspelled that) and string of pearls? Thriving, living their best life.

Pothos? Gets root rot left and right. (I have finally fixed this problem I believe! I have not had to deal with root rot for several months now. Hoping the keep it that way!)

Idk what I do but I kill mint. Yes. Mint. They always get like too dry and start dying from bot to top. I cut it, hard, and it regrows but takes quite a while. Idk how people have like really cool mint bushes.

Spider Plant. I’d be very surprised if you manage to kill one of those once they are established and growing.

My mother forgot one in the bathroom, ontop of the cistern (we have one that is high up) so it was in partial light and no watering for months. The leaves where almost white but it still came back to life.

    28. lossefalme on

Mint. Aloe Vera. Petunias. I can’t keep an astilbe alive to save my life, and I keep trying…

Meanwhile, I’m famous for my African violets, which I swear survive the worst neglect (including being upside down, thanks cat). My fittonia and nanouk are happy enough, and I’ve just added polka dot plants and a never-never plant.

I had a high school chemistry teacher who was just gentle and sweet as could be, but he possessed the black thumb of death when it came to plants. He managed to kill a KUDZU plant while actively trying to care for it 😂
