How many generations in is this cactus? I love that you gave it a place of prominence.

  2. Gorgeous! How did it get so bushy? Mine is growing but just on one stem lol

Wow she’s doing great, I have one that’s about to be 100 and I thought that was old!

  4. Omg! My 120ish year old cactus has been blooming for that long too. It’s been such a great season! They may be related because our blooms are the same color.

I love this, she’s a member of the family! Such a happy looked plant. 🥰💚

I have a 4th generation Christmas cactus that is not nearly as large as yours! My cactus has been handed down in the family with each generation getting a clipping from the mother. This is generation 4. We have to catch up to you!

This post kind of answers a curiosity I’ve always had. I’ve noticed looking at a lot of Victorian photographs that houseplants were popular, and I’ve always wondered what happened to those plants. Like if they survived and for how long and if they’re still around. Thank you! Cool plant

  8. I’ve had mine for five years. She blooms 2-3x a year. She is healthy.

And she has not grown a single new segment. Nothing. In five years.

I was just thinking about your cactus the other day! 🥰🌞🖤

Wow!!! What’s your secret? Light? Fertilizer, water. How much how often?‽ I’m just happy the leafy stems on my plant are now growing a little!

That is absolutely stunning. It reminds me of the first time we visited Queensland and saw a heap of plants that are common in New South Wales. They were completely different though, massive Jurassic park versions of the same plants, massive Zygocacti like yours for instance.

Heres a picture of a ratty little cutting that broke into two ratty little cuttings a bit less than a year ago. They’ve had a Spring and summer and are in their first autumn, I’m pretty sure she gifted them to me late last winter. They’re going great so far, I’m very happy with their shape, branching and general vitality. They’ll be robust and attractive plants as they continue to benefit from the care I give them.

Most of us know though when we care for a plant we are also attending to the maintenance of our own mental health. It’s relaxing and rewards you with visible results you can share with friends and strangers (that’d be you guys).

  12. I have a healthy one that’s at least 12-15 years old and now I feel incredibly guilty for how little I’ve repotted it. She gets random blooms here and there outside of normal bloom season and actually has a few buds on her now. I’ve got some larger pots on hand, I think it’s time she spreads her roots. If you feel any cosmic thanks, it’s probably coming from my cactus. 🙂

That is so beautiful I didn’t know cactus could look like a flower bush. My bf mom just gave me the same cactus and I’m trying my hardest not to kill
    it 😭

I have the child or grandchild of my client’s Christmas Cactus! She’s been blooming these past few weeks to my utter surprise.

My mom had her cactus since the early 90’s. I remember putting a California Raisin toy in it. I’ve had it 13 years and just got an awful thrips infestation… that cactus hurt the most. I am trying to propagate the few healthy pieces left… but, the thrips laid eggs in the last segment before the roots and just destroyed it. I’m devastated at the amount of damage the thrips caused my beautiful plants. I think I’ve thrown out at least 15, after trying to save them for months. Your cactus is beautiful!

  18. That’s a cactus? My mom has several vases of this plant and I never knew it was a cactus.
