My mum has an absolutely magnificent Sycamore opposite her house; it’s a gorgeous thing to see.
But the consequence is that I seem to spend half my time up there hunting and removing these little buggers!

We’ve just bought a new house that clearly has one of there nearish our boundary. We’ve already cut back a few saplings but my god the seedlings in the lawn 😑😑😑

I just planted a new lawn and it’s been a joy seeing all the grass and clover and wildflowers pop up……but there’s a sycamore in the neighbour’s garden and as all the stuff I planted popped up so did HUNDREDS of sycamore saplings. I haven’t been able to get at them because the grass is still too weak to walk but it’s driving me absolutely insane.

Yeah dig it out. I hate my mature sycamore it’s a thug and just doesn’t stop growing

It’s especially frustrating for me because I have lots of Japanese maples at home and every spring when little wings emerge from my JM I thought “ooooh JM seedlings!” Then I waited. The seedlings grew. When the first set of true leaves come it turns out they are all sycamores.

Someone on gardener’s question time was asked where was the best place to plant a sycamore, answer was 5 miles away..

I’m always getting these in my garden, I pull them up and put them in a pot in the greenhouse for a couple of years till they have a bit of size to them, I live in a very rural area and take them out and plant them in the middle of nowhere, over the years I’d estimate iv planted a couple of hundred in this way. Everything’s got its place, some just need to be shown where that place is.

I get them all over the place had a big one we had to remove it was growing lopsided & hitting our power cables, ours are overhead. The seedlings r still appearing I just keep cutting them down as most are right next to the fence & wall.

Hope that’s not next to your foundations, you are in trouble if it is.

This very thing happened in my front garden last week, although mine was much smaller than what you’re dealing with!
The rat of the tree world, if there was a nuclear holocaust this tree would survive, along with cockroaches and rats 🤣

they are a non native invasive species. Kill it with holy fire or get into orbit and nuke it, its the only way we will be sure…..

They’re still beautiful and fascinating plants. I have some myself.

All these comments are making me think I should have got the tree surgeon to get rid of the sycamore trees in my garden rather than just pollarding them 😅
