Hallo!

All the way to the ground. Nothing stops a healthy bouganvillia

Its already quite big and well settled into the ground with roots the one you have there, so they can take a hard pruning.

But a few guidelines probably worthwhile to still keeping in mind before you start cutting it down. Generally its best to always doing this while its still in dormant mode and just before its starts shotting up again for the next season. So like late winter/early spring. Next is that ‘usually’ the guidelines for this plant is to cutting it no more than 2/3 down, so keeping like 1/3 of the existing stems/branches there. And then letting it recover from that and grow and gather new strength. Then you can take more down next year around. (except if it really grows very fast where you are :o)

But do it with some longer term planning in mind, as then you can cut some almost down to the ground, while keeping part of the plant still with some leaves/life/side branches for the first season to helping the plant to survive well. And then then year after, you now cut down those you left the prior year, and now the new growth will be the ones that stays onwards. This way you can ‘rejuvenate’ your Bougainvillea.

You have an example of how its done here:

I wouldn’t cut it back at all. It’s amazing. But you could cut it as far down as you want and it will come back.

I had one like that in Chapala, Mexico. I cut it back to 1-foot stumps, and it grew back.
