They are native to the US and are a wonderful little plant. They spread, but don’t go bananas. Some treat them as a weed, but I always leave them and enjoy them. You’ll see them in white too

  3. As others have written, it’s a type of wild violet. Wild violets are host plants for several caterpillars. These lovelies grow all over my property, and they bring me beautiful Diana Fritillary Butterflies in summer. They are not invasive, and they are often one of the first flowers in spring. Enjoy OP! I hope you choose to keep them.

  4. Looks like violet odorata or very similar looking at flower and leave shape.

One of those most lovely scents found in nature. Get up close and take a sniff…

Bird poop and wind are nature’s random wonders.
I have them on the side of my house, and they pop back up every spring. I just love them ❤️

Oh beautiful violets. You’re so lucky – they will spread. So pretty.

I designated a shade bed that wouldn’t grow anything else to wild violets. Any time I remove one from the other beds I toss it in there.

  9. Love violets. The flowers are edible (if you don’t apply pesticides etc),

Those are “wild violets”. They do spread and have taken over entire yards in the south eastern us. One example was my previous home’s yard.

I kind of like them but they don’t make for great lawns so if you care about that it may be a problem.

I found that in my case they were more opportunistic rather than dominant and when other plants got well established these kind of stopped spreading as much.

  12. Wild violets. They are beautiful and they come back every year. I had a ton in one back corner of my yard. I’ve been taking their seeds and something the whole plant and moving then all over my yard for more violets coverage

Wood violet. Pretty little thing, but spreads like wildfire.

I don’t know about all of you that say they’re not invasive. They’re all over my yard in places that I do not want them! I cannot get rid of them and spraying hasn’t worked. Dig them up quickly before they take over your lawn and flower beds!
