If by chance could you do venus fly trap? Been having a hard time finding those

Maybe a silly question but is there a way to turn one plant into two? Normally you can use a trimming but I feel like it wouldn’t work with spring onion?

I placed a sweet potato into a wide glass with water. Four days later (!) it started growing nice roots and a week after that, it has growth growing up and out of it! Can’t wait to see it as a full grown plant!!! QUESTION-Please, am I to plant into soil or can I continue keeping it in water?? I’m wondering if the water-way wouldn’t eventually cause mold or rot????
