Hallo zusammen, nach ein paar Ratschlägen. Ich nehme mir nächste Woche eine Woche frei, um meinen Garten neu zu gestalten. Ich habe ein begrenztes Budget, habe Hunde, die gerne graben, lebe in Südwales und mache es aus bestimmten Gründen alleine.
Ich hatte das Glück, ein paar Dinge kostenlos vom Marktplatz zu bekommen, um zu helfen (Ziegelsteine, Säcke mit Bausand). Ich besitze mein Haus, also habe ich keine Probleme damit, ob es wie eine Hose aussieht, wenn ich es selbst mache. Ich probiere es gerne aus und schaue, wo ich herkomme 🤞🏻
Bilder aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln aufgenommen. Wie Sie sehen, habe ich die hintere Reihe der Terrassenplatten übernommen. Sie waren sowieso abfallend, und ich werde sie verwenden, um die Terrasse dort zu verbreitern, wo sich auf beiden Seiten der Kies befindet (mir werden gleich noch weitere Platten gespendet, nachdem ein Nachbar sie losgeworden ist).
Ich habe den Sand und den Beton, die sich darunter befanden, eingetopft, um sie als Untergrund für den derzeitigen Kies zu verwenden (ich werde den Kies ausgraben). Kann ich den Kies dort auch verwenden und ihn für eine bessere Entwässerung weglassen?
Als nächstes werde ich die Ziegel verwenden, um die Terrasse (wo ich gerade gegraben habe) zu sichern. Ist das eine gute Idee oder sind Ziegel nicht die beste Lösung?
Ich möchte den Rasen etwas ebnen, aber darunter ist alles lehmig und schlammig und im Winter nur eine Schlammgrube. Ich möchte auch eine kleine, sonnengeschützte Terrasse in der unteren linken Ecke bauen, wenn ich mehr Platten habe, und irgendwann eine größere, bessere Basis für einen neueren Schuppen schaffen.
Mit der Rasenfläche? Wie geht man das am besten an? Vom Schachtdeckel verläuft ein Graben bis zum rechten Zaun, wo sich vermutlich ein Abflussrohr befindet. Kann ich diesen Graben einfach etwas auffüllen? Muss ich alles ausgraben? Kann ich darüber Erde legen, schleifen und von vorne beginnen? Soll ich belüften?
Irgendwann möchte ich erhöhte Pflanzgefäße entlang der Zaunlinie und viele bunte Pflanzen, vielleicht etwas Obst und Gemüse. Oh, und ich werde auch die Zäune streichen. Es gibt viel zu tun, keine Ahnung, wohin man als nächstes gehen soll.

Honestly the soil in new builds is always so terrible. If you can get a bulk bag or 2 of high quality topsoil within your budget you are going to have a much better time doing everything rather than trying to get that soil to grow grass/plants/anything
I’d cut a border out where I’ve drawn the red line for a few reasons instead of raised beds:
1. It’s far easier to maintain.
2. It’s way cheaper.
3. It looks better and doesn’t need replacing after they inevitably rot the fence and the raised planters.
4. You have a deeper border which gives you more options, and removes more lawn area which is a lost cause in new builds without spending a lot of time and money.
Just dig out the grass roots, and plant things that will do ok in bad quality soil, dig in some top soil in the border if you really want to. Then, line it with some thick tree branches by digging them into the ground. I also found tying string around bamboo canes to clearly define the border, along with telling my dog off when he went to cross it, was very effective and he quickly learned. Do not put down any form of weed guard, just use a thick layer of bark, and top up every year, it works way better I promise!
Lastly, I’d honestly just see if you can get some cheap gravel for the remaining lawn. Dogs easily destroy small patches of grass.

People are going to offer lots of advice and here’s mine. Have a think about when you are going to be sat out in the garden. Early morning coffee? Midday sun? Drink in the evening?
Whatever you decide, have a look at the sunniest part of the garden during at that time of day during the summer and put your seating patio there.
It’s very easy to keep the patio attached to the house but there’s no rules on this. I’d then build the garden around that decision.
I’d suggest taking it in stages.
Figure out what is most important to you? Then do that first.
The shed is probably fine, just a bit neglected, and with a coat of paint and some clean-up work, it will look a lot better. They’re surprisingly expensive to replace.
I’d suggest painting the fence and a general clean up. Followed by the patio in the bottom left corner – you’re more likely to use the garden then, and you can think about what else would look good.
I’d avoid raised beds. You’ll have to fill them with soil, and that will be up against the fence and could expedite rot. Just dig out some beds instead.
For the grass, it will prob need a lot of prep, especially with dogs. I was told Fine Fescue seed is best for resisting dog pee. I’ve been patching my own lawn with it and it seems to be much more resistant than whatever was there before. You’ll beed to dig whats there out, decompact it and airate it then reseed.
A lot of potential!! What’s your budget?? As you said because it’s a bit of a sun trap you might need to focus on rockeries etc theres a load of plants that would love that garden especially sedums, verbenas, poppies, rock roses etc it all depends on what your taste is?
No fake grass, that stuff should be illegal

Progress update for anyone interested. Taken another one of slabs off, started digging the slope out, aerated right hand side so far, been to B&Q and hand moved 11 20kg bags of sub base and slab layer, bought skip bags because the amount of clay/soil is overwhelming – back is broken!
