I forgot the discussion part of my post! Do you guys think orchids are hard to keep alive/thriving as opposed to other types of plants?

My orchids are incredibly jealous of your setup! They’ve been “alive” for over a year, but I can tell they long for the trees. I have them in terracotta pots with holes in a bark mixture with some moss but I think I’m gonna try what you’ve got going on!!

I’ve not found them to be any more or less difficult than other houseplants.

Nice! Just about to start a similar project, but going to wrap them around terracotta planters instead so i can keep moisture coming from the inside!

Used to have something like this. My orchids were thriving because of those lights! So many keikis I was just giving away lol Anyway, with a set up like that, orchids are not too different from any other plant difficulty-wise.

Looks clean and well thought out. Just watch airflow and heat buildup: those lights can create hot spots over orchids. A small fan and a bit more distance between leaves and lights will prevent stress and leaf damage. Solid setup overall, better to fine-tune slowly than overcorrect.
