Dies geschah während des Sturms Eowyn. Wir konnten es nicht glauben, als wir aufwachten. Wir hatten immer gehofft, Schulfotos unserer Kinder usw. vor dieser Schönheit zu haben. War ein trauriger Tag.
oh that’s so terrible what a beautiful tree that was 🙁

I wonder if you could stake it up and put weights around the base? Clearly big stakes and straps.

What kind of tree was it? It’s a beaut, would love to plant one

Was going to say more than likely it could have been saved, they respond well to hard pruning and being lifted up and plonked back down sometimes can be a blessing.

Can it be rescued?

Oh, my condolences.
Such a tragic loss.

Sorry to see, OP. That really was beautiful.
Maybe you could plant something in its place and then you can watch it grow as your kids grow?

Looking at how it’s failed, it looks like some root rot got to it first and the storm just finished the job.
Mighty shame though, really good looking specimen!

Side note, I have seen Bonsai trees exactly like this with a pink flowers at Chelsea flower show. Perhaps there is one available for purchase (might cost a lot though)

Aww I feel for you. 🌺Nothing you can do. 🌺It’s caused by a long drought. Some roots have been lost. There will be more of this next few storms. It is surprising though to see so few roots.
Your kids will enjoy the process of selecting a tree and preparing the ground tor the new tree!

Such a shame 🙁 I guess you could see it as an opportunity to plant something that would truly be your own?

Great opportunity to plant a beautiful native tree that can help insects, birds and other wildlife.
Part of the issue is this tree has no others with it help it stay rooted.
Naturally trees grow with other trees and the intermingling of their roots and overlapping branches helps them all stay upright on two ways – more trees break up the wind, deflecting it so it isn’t all focused on one tree, the second is their roots and other plants around them improve the ground anchoring.
Now trees with others still do fall on wind of course, but those tend to be trees that are compromised in some way, it’s rare for a healthy tree with others to come down unless there is some issue with the ground.
Trees like this on their own in the middle of grass are just a recipe for exactly this happening, it’s just a matter of time.

I feel so sad you lost such a beautiful rhododendron which was probably about 60years old 🥹
