There are fall and spring blooming crocus; the saffron variety is supposed to bloom in fall. These might be spring bloomers. I’m not sure how to tell the difference.
I live in WI and we’ve had some unusually warm streaks as well as several sub zeros. Saffron crocus bloom in the fall; it may have gotten confused with the weather changes – if you are in 6 you may have had these swings too. I had irises blooming on Christmas eve – three days before that it was -5 degrees here.
Sometimes my newly planted or fall flowering bulbs get confused their first season and flower later or skip flowering. Unusual weather can also mix up signals for spring and fall ephemerals and throw off timing.
