Buying nettle seeds? Just leave some shady soil exposed and you’ll have a jungle within a month.
RHS is a good resource. This page [https://www.rhs.org.uk/weeds/nettles-as-weeds](https://www.rhs.org.uk/weeds/nettles-as-weeds) has a section half way down called “How invasive are stinging nettles?” that talks about how they spread, including how to stop them seeding which would be your main problem with a potted nettle. If you decide to repot or replace it, you’d need to be aware that the roots would re-grow (so if you emptied the pot onto the ground, the nettles would grow there from the roots)
Probably the same with how you handle mint pots or isolated areas, mind you most plants struggle with being mowed regularly so it’s a way to kill them or control if they start taking over, personally I prefer mint because it smells amazing when it goes through the mower.
Ancient memory unlocked: Oh the joys of going outdoors into the woods as a child, trying to avoid the sheer abundance of stinging nettles and accidentally brushing up on them several times while walking through the trodden path.
I love nettle tea. It’s lovely.
Only satan grows nettles.
And soup.
And you can make a nettle tea which is a great fertiliser.
And it’s good for caterpillars and butterflies
Nettles are surprisingly useful in a garden; you can use them for tea, soup, and to make fertilizer for your garden.
I can see it now, 2026 will be the year of nettle lawns on the gardening subs! Move over clover!
I dont think I’ve ever seen a nettle seed in real life
Does it have to be a true nettle? I’m still on the fence after getting a bad sting this year so I’ve got various mints, lemon balms, dead nettle etc
As kids we used to climb up on our garage roofs, it was a row of garages behind our houses with a flat roof. There was a patch of no man’s land behind them full of nettles and one time in summer I fell off the roof into them in a t-shirt and shorts. Ow the stings I got trying to get out of there! So F nettles far as I’m concerned, never went near one ever again lol
Arthritis prevention?
I love them cooked like spinach! I forage them but honestly if I had a patch in the garden I doubt it would spread as I’d eat them any time there was new growth. The best green imo.
I use nettles in my cooking..
pot them and don’t let them go to seed
Growing nettles is like growing mosquitoes for fun.
