That’s a huge bug!!
Please don’t hurt it
Big boy!
That really doesn’t look like any of the caterpillars that eat brassicas. Probably just a dude tryna overwinter. Check your plants and not the leaf mulch
ETA: looking closer and stalking your profile a bit to get location I think it’s a velvet armyworm so guess it could be eating your veggies
Put him back plz
That’s a thicc boy
moths ruin vegetables, a dash of BT weekly will prevent this
Plant enough veggies for you and the insects.
If your dog is missing, that might have consumed the pup as well😬
Damn that’s huge! Side story. My tomato plants were being devoured by something. Could never figure it out. One night after work I let my dog out as I sat on the patio having a drink after work. She came back and I was like…you smell like tomatoes…did you eat the tomatoes!? She of course said no and then I saw tomatoe seeds all along her lower chin.
As frustrating as cutworms are, that is an impressively big one. Nature really said “full commitment” on that caterpillar. At least you found the culprit—now your cauliflower finally has a fighting chance. Great catch, even if the guest was wildly uninvited.
I’ve never seen a bug this large.
wūrm
I think you finally found this little guy after his not so little anymore thanks to your cauliflower and kale feast!
Thats a chonker!
Oh my lord! That’s huge.
name him Gordo.
That’s a nasty looking fellow.
Massive lad. Really, truly hope there are no eggs (do update us) because they’ll just tear through your veg in no time.
