Hallo zusammen,

Obviously im guessing, follow the gutter of the building, I think that much of it is glass house, but not of the apex design, imagine a high wall with a massive leanto glasshouse against it with a grape vine against the wall, the rest of the building looks to have a different design, it was probably potting shed, machinery and tool storage with a sizeable coal bunker and boiler for heating the glass house.

You could try the ‘Historic England Archive.’ Not only do they have thousands of photos but they also have records of some of the big estates when they were divided up as well as other building records. If you e mail or phone them they can do a search for you, some searches are free but they also do a priority search which is chargeable. It is worth asking them to see if they have photographs and/or records pertaining to where you live. If you go onto their website you can browse and look at many of their collections (they are always adding new archive). Hope this helps and good luck 🙂

  3. You can actually see the a darker rounf area of grass on your second photo that could be the pond/well feature.

Just thinking about the timing. One of my grandparents returned from being an injured POW around early 1919. He was one of far too many traumatised and disabled. I imagine there was a need for sort of nightingale hospitals and convalescent institutions all around the country.

You might want to search local newspapers around that time in case there was any mention? Also, try to find any archives of the local planning authority at the time, re any planning permissions that would contain the answer you are seeking.

Do let us know what you discover. It is intriguing.
