As far as I’ve understood you should keep the water clean as possible. I’ve heard of people adding a small amount of clear alcohol to the water to promote the longevity of the flowers. Apparently it’s the bacteria that makes them die faster.

Keep them out of direct sun and in cooler areas of the house. Change the water every other day. Trim stems 1/4 – 1/2 inch on a 45 degree angle. Remove leaves from stems as they eat up nutrients from the flower.

For future reference, you could ask for an orchid. The flowers stay nice for about 2 months.

If you have cats, toss out the lilies. They are poisonous to cats. They are the ones that haven’t opened up yet.

Clean water every day. Drop of bleach ideally in water.

Your date has good taste! Keep the water clean and if you have cats, put them somewhere they can’t get at them.
