Roofing torch. Burn them!
That is sand burr. It too is the bane of my existence. the ONLY thing i have found that works is an atrazine based weed killer. Now on the mechanical side of it, if you find them and using gloves and tools, you pull them up, they usually do not survive. Like some plants, even a tiny bit of root is viable and the plant will regrow (dandelion is a good one) but sand burr is not so resilient, so digging them up will help a lot.
