That’s a Chinese bloom form (I don’t know their classification system could be something like Flying Dragon) but in the National Chrysanthemum Society, Inc. USA system it would be Class 13: Exotic/Unclassified because it exhibits 2 or more qualities of the other 12 bloom forms.

What you call a petal is technically a floret, a miniature flower that is capable of producing a seed.

Agree with everyone that this is totally mesmerizing. The history to its name is even more interesting.

The name XI-SHI appears in chinese folklore before 221 BC. She hailed from a village in Yue State. This place was famous for its beautiful women , sword making and weaving.

The powerful state of Wu defeated the state of Yue. The cunning Yue king Goujian feigned submission and served the King of Wu as if he were his own father, while secretly plotting revenge. According to one source, Goujian endured great humiliation, even tasting the king’s excrement to demonstrate loyalty. His loyal minister, Fan Li, sought to use the beautiful women of Yue to weaken the King of Wu’s resolve and create an opportunity to avenge their country. This is when they found the renowned silk-washing girl, Xi Shi.

There are similarly multiple layers of meaning to the Chinese idiom “in the eyes of lovers, every woman is a Xi Shi” (情人眼裡出西施). Like its Western counterpart “beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” this idiom is often thought to mean that beauty is subjective.

Xi Shi left an indelible mark on Chinese culture because of her unparalleled beauty, There is a lot more to this to read if you google it.

So we now know why this chrysanthemum is named as such coz iti is stunning.
