      I also mist them every day, sometimes twice a day. I got them before the summer to help make my apartment have good air, and it feels like I’m under the forest canopy in here now. So fresh and alive!

      Boston Ferns were sort of an intimidating plant for me… I had killed ferns in the past, so I was determined to figure out how to keep them, and help them thrive.

      If they send out more runners, I’ll make a little video on propagating them; the gift that keeps on giving!!

      Goals! Your babies are beautiful and thriving! I have the space but currently I do not have the patience for this level of fern care. Nonetheless, I have saved your post for when I try yet again to keep a fern alive.

      I was JUST tending to the ones on my porch, this time of year I let them sorta go all natural until the first frost takes them. I’ve had one really well (usually I accidentally neglect them and they’re barely hanging on 😬). I was thinking to myself “I need to learn how to care for these properly so they stay full and lush—thank you for posting hour video! I swear I’ll do a better job next season!

      What food do give them? I am trying to bring mine back to life. We got some grow lights and we mist it once to twice a day.

      My Boston fern absolutely haaates it when I water its crown, it only seems to be happy when I water the edges of its pot. Any idea how yours are happy with the shower watering?

      I never manage to water mine once a week… When I water it once, the soil stays wet for a month or longer… Does that mean my soil has too high moisture retention?? It’s still in the original pot/soil that I bought it in.

      I have a Boston fern that looks great on 3 sides then one part of it all of the ferns go straight up and stay straight up. The rest hang over nicely. I rotate the fern under grow lights once in a while and honestly idk why it does this. Some of the fern fronds grow upside down too

      do you live in a naturally humid environment? they’re so gorgeous! i live close to a desert so ferns only thrive in the winter, ive had success with this same type before but i had to run 3 humidifiers around it constantly. your video is so inspiring though!

      So that amount of browning and molting is normal? And you also give it showers in the winter/colder months?

      My tek for outside ferns: fill a five gallon bucket 3/4 of the way with water, dissolve a cup of Epsom salts in the water. Dunk your fern and keep it underwater until it stops bubbling, throughly soaking. Repeat once a week. I buy the cheap Walmart ferns for $6 in the spring and I end up with the biggest most beautiful ferns in the neighborhood

      Would you say that Kangaroo Paw fern requires the same treatment? It’s my first and only fern so far and while it’s happy, it’s not exactly striving.

      I’m glad to find this! Using the shower is a pretty good idea actually. I’m gonna be getting a Boston Fern, slightly intimidated the last time I had plants was when I was like 6.

      I bought a Boston Fern from King Soopers. It was a discounted plant.

      One side is almost blank.
      I have kept it alive longer than the ones in the past. A year or so, I think.

      I have it hanging in my bathroom window. It gets the east light and that’s it. So not much light, maybe a couple of hours.

      I water it when it is dry to the touch. I place it in a shallow pan and pour regular tap water into the pot until there is an inch or so of water in the pan. I let it sit until the water is drawn up into the pot. Most it pretty much every time I use the toilet. Helps remind me to mist it.

      It looks much better than it did when I bought it.

      My question is what are the long threads/strings coming off the plant.

      And I think I need to repot it.

      It had to be normal for the shaded core of the fern to lack any kind of green. Right?

      All of the interior stalks are bare on their lower halves in m my big boy
