If they have any chance, they need to be either put in the ground (the best thing you could do) or separated and placed into a permanent pot. Most sunflowers aren’t well suited to life in pots, as the grow a deep taproot that stabilizes the top of the plant. At least 8 inches deep for a dwarf variety, more like 12 for anything else. But, they hate having their roots messed with and may die when you disturb them.
