    They are called arils and they are the only edible part and actually quite delicious. Be careful though as the stone inside is poisonous as is every other part of the tree.

  3. I have got an English Yew hedge and I really can share in your excitement knowing you have both male & female yews.
    They always remind me of small jewels when I see them.

  5. means it’s a female. It’s called an aril rather than a true berry.

  6. We used to make Yew Berry Jelly from the 400 year old yews we had growing locally. DELICIOUS but you need to be careful in processing as they posess a powerful toxin in the seeds & any other part of the plant. The berries are the exception as they’re for birds to spread.
