Hallo alles!

The outlet in the down pipe needs to be lowered. It should be at the same level as where in inlet pipe on the butt enters.

Not sure if this will fix the overflowing gutter though.

You might find the waterbutt outlet has caused blockage up the downpipe. Pull it all apart and see what comes out.

It might be the photo, but that looks like it’s been installed upside down.

Also it could just be your gutters need cleaning as I don’t know why the wrong installation of the kit on down pipe would do that, unless there is something blocking that down pipe at the point of the water but kit and that is what surveyor was on about?

Others have already said it’s too high. You’ve probably also got a blockage and need your gutters cleaning. If you intend to raise the butts, remember their weight when full is 110kg. I’d use paving slabs rather than wood but just be aware.

From this photo it looks perfectly installed. It’s not upside down (drains from lower half of insert) and runs slightly down starting at the top of the butt to the inlet. Look at a manual for one of these kits and that’s what it will say.

The only issue is it is for square guttering, not round.

Water spilling out the gutter is a separate issue. Get someone in to clear and flush them once a year.

Water butt will have nothing to do with your gutters they are meters above. This looks fine it’s very similar to my set up which works perfectly.

Issues with the installation of the butts side, your downpipe sounds like it is blocked.

Are you able to gently, without knackering the gutter above, lift the downpipe that’s above the diverter a little so as you can disconnect it from the diverter? N.B. You may want someone with you to hold it up whilst you clean the diverter, keeping slight upwards force on the downpipe, so as it remains connected to the gutter and doesn’t slip down out of its connection to the gutter.

Once you can get into the diverter you may find it is choked with moss and leaves that have found their way down. Clean it out. Also, check it’s installed the right way up, it may be upside down, depending on the manufacturer. Look online to find how it should look.

Also you may need to flush out the pipes into the butts, (n.b. do that annually, with a hosepipe from inside the butt, once you’ve got the butts the correct height with the inlet to the butt the exact same height as the outlet from the downpipe.

When you say spilling over the gutter, do you mean the gutter on the roof? If so, that’s probably not to do with the height of the water butt diverter. That’s either a blockage somewhere, or a problem with the installation of the gutters themselves. As others have said, the diverter does look a bit high and that can cause the butts to overflow, but it wouldn’t affect the gutters on the roof.

If there *is* a blockage, that *could* occur at the water butt diverter, among other possibilities, but that would just be just as likely to happen if it was installed properly.

    10. I found the cause. I took the guttering off, got the water butt diverter kit out and then pulled about 10 inches of dead moss out of the drainpipe. It had become lodged on piece of rubber gutter connector seal
