      STOP

That Rosemary is OLD AS FUCK

That is not “out of control” 🙄. Leave that beautiful old plant alone and just harvest bits off it when you need to cook.

Out of control 😂 it’s not a bloody unruly teenage trashing your house. We have a obsession with things being neat and new. Embrace it’s age, embrace the old look of that plant. It is gorgeous!!!

If it was me I would keep the main bush, just take the right hand branches off it, but you’ll have to do it carefully as it will look bare underneath. Could look weird from the patio. But I don’t think it’ll do it any harm to lop bits off it.

A plant that well established will probably have no trouble. Trim it back, try propagating some cuttings just in case, cook some amazing things with it, dry the extra and store it.

That’s not out of control you just need some garlic, thyme, nice cuts of steak and a skillet

My rosemary died this year cause i think it just wasn’t the right spot for it

They can get a bit woody. It’s just how they would grow naturally. I haven’t got much space to play with in my garden so I usually take some cuttings, and once they’re established and the bees have done for the year I remove the old one.

I’d gladly swap out of control pyracantha with out of control rosemary. 😭

    7. That will cope with a hard cut back. Just cut it back so it’s within the boarder and bring the height down a bit. Dry all the off cuts for a years supply of rosemary,👍

Ignore the hippy weirdos, light prune now is fine, a rejuvenating hard prune to about half its size in winter to tame it.

This is beautiful. You can totally cut it back, I would suggest starting at the bottom cut smaller branches coming off the main branch first.

Give you a better look at what you want to keep or cut back.

A little bit at a time to let it recover between cut is always better.

Everyone is saying to give it a hard prune but I’m not sure if rosemary grows back from old wood. You can probably safely prune anywhere that’s still green.

    11. Also have a wild and ancient rosemary that pokes me as I get into my car. I got hacked off so I hacked it off, with a hard cut back. Has returned each year since and I’ve just manicured it) i.e took cuttings to use in my meals) to keep it in check. Looks much better.

    12. A rosemary bush this large and very well established should easily cope with being cut back, you can very easily half the size… even more it you wanted to, use some of it to make some amazing meals and dry some out and keep it for later. I have a rosemary bust that is a little bigger that yours and I cut it right down every so many years as the branches can become a little bare and the smell of the rosemary is not a fragrant.. don’t be afraid get your best set of pruners on it, it’s quite hardy and will spring back better in no time at all.. you’ll see..
